Field Lessons
At KIPP Philadelphia Schools learning extends beyond the classroom. Our students take monthly field lessons across the region, and end-of-year field lessons across the country. Local Field Lessons Every month KIPPsters have the opportunity to earn the monthly field lesson, where teachers and parents lead the students on trips to venues like Independence Hall, The Philadelphia Museum of Art, and the Franklin Institute. These lessons are tied to state academic standards, and allow students to experience parts of our region they may not otherwise experience. End-of-Year Field Lessons At the end of each year KIPPsters who have worked hard and been nice earn the right to attend a week-long End-of-Year Field Lesson.
5th graders visit Washington DC to extend their learning about US History and Government. 6th graders visit Bryce Canyon, Zion National Park, and the Grand Canyon out west, to extend their learning about Earth Science and teamwork. 7th graders visit Montgomery, Selma, and Birmingham, Alabama, as well as Memphis, Tennessee and Atlanta, Georgia to extend their learning about the Civil Rights Movement. 8th graders visit San Juan, Puerto Rico to extend their learning about Spanish language and Puerto Rican culture and history. |
