MAP (Measures of Academic Progress) Results

KIPP Philadelphia Schools administers the Measures of Academic Progress (MAP) assessment -developed by the Northwest Education Association (NWEA) – twice a year to all of its students.  KIPP uses this assessment for 3 reasons:

  1. It is a nationally norm-referenced assessment, which means we can compare our scores to schools across the country and not just in Pennsylvania.
  1. Administered online, the test dynamically adapts to a student’s answers, offering more challenging questions if the students answer correctly and easier ones if answered incorrectly. This method narrows in on a student’s learning level, engaging them with content that allows them to succeed.
  1. Unlike the PSSAs, MAP is administered in the Fall and Spring and provides growth information.  After the Fall administration, students receive an annual Growth Target that reflects the average amount of growth a student in that grade with that starting score tends to achieve during the course of a year.  If a student’s Spring scores equal or exceed their Growth Targets, they are considered to have achieved their growth goal for the year.  This information enables schools to better evaluate whether students are progressing and achieving academically.
