Sonia V. Szymanski joined the KIPP Through College team in Philadelphia as the Director of College Placement. She was born and raised in the Germantown section of Philadelphia. She earned her undergraduate degree from Hofstra University in Long Island, New York and soon after made it home. For 6 years Sonia lived in NYC and served the families of children and adolescents in Harlem and Washington Heights in various case management roles. In 2004 she returned to Philadelphia, where she worked at The Young Women’s Leadership School @ Rhodes in North Philadelphia for 7 years. During her time at TYWLS @ Rhodes she served as the Director of College Counseling for 5 years and then transitioned to Lead Guidance Counselor for her last 2 years. In 2009 Sonia earned her masters degree in Professional Counseling from the University of Pennsylvania. She enjoys travelling and now lives in the East Falls area of Philadelphia near her family and friends.
