Internship Program Overview

KIPP Philadelphia Schools Internship Program is committed to offering internships to college students in and around Philadelphia.  Depending on the student's interests, they have the opportunity to experience working in a variety of fields - teaching, business operations, office management, non-profit development, talent, and beyond!  Through their work with KPS, interns will also gain a great deal of knowledge about the public education system in Philadelphia, the challenges it faces, and how KIPP Philadelphia has addressed the needs of students in North and West Philadelphia.  Learn more about KIPP Philadelphia Schools here. 

Students working in our Intership Program will gain experience working in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial non-profit environment that is leading the country in large-scale education reform.  As KIPP operates 109 schools in 20 states and DC, interns have exposure to a national network with the potential for future job opportunities.

Our Schools

KIPP Philadelphia Schools currently has four schools serving students in North and West Philadelphia in grades K-1, 5-8, and 9-10.  Within the next eight years, KIPP programming in Philadelphia will include ten schools and over 4,400 students being served.

KIPP Philadelphia Elementary Academy, North Philadelphia - Grades K-1

KIPP Philadelphia Charter School, North Philadelphia - Grades 5-8

        Work Study Opportunity

        Do you qualify for federal work study at your college/university?  KIPP Philadelphia Schools is a PHEAA approved, off-campus work study provider.  If you school allows off-campus work study opportunites, your internship may qualify for work study financial aid.  Contact your college/university's finanacial aid office.

        Note: KIPP Philadelphia Schools currently has work study partnerships with the following schools:

          • Temple University (PA residents only)

        Academics Intern

        Job Description:

        The Academics Intern will work with the Director of Curriculum, Instruction and Assessment to increase alignment and improve strategic data analysis practices for KIPP Philadelphia Schools.

        Work will include but is not limited to:

        • Assistance in the development and presentation of Common Core implementation recommendation
        • Curricular alignment analysis
        • Teacher-level data analysis

        Qualifications:

        • Strong communication skills – both written and oral
        • Exceptional work ethic and can-do attitude
        • Proficient in Microsoft Office suite
        • Ability to conduct research and analyze large datasets to draw high level trends
        • Passionate about making a positive impact on public education
        • Preference given to candidates with understanding of k12 education

         

        Availability:

        Candidates should be available to work at least 4 hours per week (Mondays and Tuesdays preferred)

        Development Intern

        Job Description:

        The mission of KIPP Philadelphia Schools (KPS) is to develop the character, knowledge, and skills of our students so they will succeed in college, giving them the freedom to shape their futures and positively affect their communities.  Our vision is to achieve our mission at critical mass – a cluster of schools in Philadelphia – thereby reinvigorating public education in this city through the performance of our students and the leadership of our educators.  Within the next eight years, KIPP programming in Philadelphia will include ten schools, over 4,400 students and over 370 employees.  To learn more about KIPP Philadelphia, visit www.kippphiladelphia.org

        The Development Intern will work directly with the Director of Development. Schedule and hours are flexible and will be approximately 6-8 hours a week, Monday through Friday.

        Reporting to the Director of Development (DOD) the Development Intern will:

        • Help with monthly event planning including: school-based events and higher profile events
        • Grant proposal and report writing
        • Developing marketing materials
        • Public relations outreach such as writing press releases
        • General administrative support

        High School and College Placement Intern (1 position available)

        Our Mission:

        KIPP Philadelphia Schools is committed to supporting its students to and through college. The KIPP Through College program provides essential resources to KPS students and alumni as they apply to high schools and colleges and provides ongoing mentoring and support for high school students, college students and college graduates. 

        Job Description:

        The KTC program is currently seeking a highly motivated, task oriented and organized intern. The intern will work in the KTC office as well as on site at one or more of our schools alongside the Director of KTC and/or the Director of College Placement.  They will be exposed to a fast paced non-profit work environment, learning the day to day functions of running a program that provides academic and social supports to students ranging from 7th grade to college. The KTC’s program hours are Monday-Friday from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm.

        Reporting to the Director, the Placement Intern will:

        • Assist in the maintenance of student and office files, both paper and virtual
        • Create and reproduce documents necessary for daily operation
        • Handle student and parent inquires and outreach to students and parents as necessary
        • Occasionally working directly with students and parents as they engage in the placement process
        • Assist the KTC program staff with other projects as necessary

        Qualifications:

        • Proficient in all of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, ExCel, Publisher and Power Point)

        Job Description:
        KIPP Philadelphia Charter School is currently seeking highly motivated, task oriented and organized interns. The interns will work in the school’s Main Office alongside the Office Manager.  They will be exposed to a fast paced school environment learning the day to day functions of operationally running a school. The school hours at KPCS are Monday thru Thursday from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm and Friday from 7:30am to 3:30 pm.   We prefer you being able to work the hours of 2pm – 5pm.
        Reporting to the Office Manager, the Office Administrative Interns will:
        • Assist in the maintenance of student and office files
        • Create and reproduce documents necessary for daily operation
        • Handle student and parent inquires
        • Supervise main office
        • Answer phone
        • Assist the Office Manager with other projects as necessary

        Job Description:
        KIPP West is currently seeking highly motivated, task oriented and organized teaching assistant interns. The interns will work in the school directly supporting teachers.  Interns will be exposed to collaborating with teachers and working with students in a school.
        Reporting to the Director of Outreach, the Teaching Assistant Interns will:
        • Assist in the preparation and execution of lesson plans
        • Assist the teacher in collecting data and tracking objectives
        • Tutor students by remediating prior objectives

        Job Description:
        KIPP West Philadelphia Prep is currently seeking a highly motivated, task oriented and organized intern. The intern will work in the Main Office alongside the Director of Outreach.  They will be exposed to a fast paced school environment learning the day to day functions of operationally running a network of schools. KIPP West Philadelphia Prep’s hours are Monday- Friday from 7:25 am to 5:00 pm.

        The Operations Intern will:

        • Assist in the maintenance of student and staff files and database
        • Assist in the maintenance of project-based tasks from teachers
        • Assist in managing school-wide systems and logistics
        • Assist the Director of Outreach with other projects as necessary
